The ATW weavers had the chance to travel to Glasgow for a day, where they met with former Dovecot Master Weaver Jonathan Cleaver. Jonathan took Karlie, Leith and Sophie to Kelvingrove Art Gallery at the West End of Glasgow, where he showed them the historic tapestries from the Burrell Collection. The team also visited the Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture, which is located at the centre of the city.

Back at the studio, the ATW weavers had a rug tufting session with Dovecot rug tufter Kristi Vana. Kristi showed the girls how to use the studio’s tufting gun and then let them have a go at tufting themselves – trying out a completely different textile-making technique for the first time.

All three of the weavers seem to enjoy experimenting with gun tufting, as they keep going back to the tufting frame in the studio!
