CREATIVE INDIVIDUAL

I have a fascination with the potency, provenance and symbolism of the ‘things’ that surround us. This interest is frequently infused with an investigation into the forces of globalisation and social and economical inequalities. I am intrigued by the narrative qualities of ubiquitous objects and by the forces of materialism, marketing, consumerism and obsolescence. The interaction between people and material culture is a recurring area of enquiry in my artistic practice; how we read visual language, how we make sense of our material world. Through the language of ‘stuff’ my work concerns itself with connections between objects, people and places. How the stuff that surrounds us can define us and be defined by us. It examines the relationship between artist, art-object and viewer and questions the boundaries between thinking and making, creation and craft, authorship and ownership, detritus and artefact. By placing emphasis on the power and meaning of objects my work strives to give a voice to things, to extract stories from them and to invite projected narratives upon them.
